Tropical Cyclone Freddy, March 2023
On 11 March 2023, Tropical Cyclone Freddy hit Malawi causing loss of life, injury and displacement in parts of Southern Malawi and neighbouring countries. The University of Edinburgh contacted staff and students who may have been affected, to offer support.
Tropical Cyclone Freddy
We are saddened by the news of the devastating cyclone in Southern Africa, and in particular the destruction and loss of life caused in Malawi. The University has strong links to Malawi, with more academics working on research in Malawi than any other country in Africa, over fifty Malawian students that currently study with the University, and through our membership of the Scotland Malawi Partnership. Our thoughts are with all our students, staff and alumni from Malawi and neighbouring countries who have been affected by this disaster. Please know the University can offer support to those affected, with further details below.
